MB Night Bassin 1/24/2012 - 2 PB!

the stars looked aligned for another great night bassin' session, so decided to hit up MB. night was a little cloudy, a little windy, but not too cold. hit up a few new spots for nada, so decided to hit up my go to spot. lots of boils and baitfish swimming around, but was able to only pick up 1. decided to move around. good idea as around 8 pm, the wind died down, and the bite took off.

picked up my pb SBB! a little over 17".

another look at him.

back to back fish on multiple casts, brought an exciting night for me. ended the night at 10:30 pm (gf was calling), and they were still biting. left with 15 sbb, another new best for me!

equipment of choice: shimano clarus, symetre spooled with 15lb pp, t-rigged T&C Black widow (thanks kevin, may need more)- 1/0 EWG, 3/8 weight. had to bump up my weight as all the fish were in deeper water.

hanapa'a!

MB Night Bassin 1/2/2012

did not finish 2011 with a big bang (skunk and dinks @ the surf), so decided to try something a lil different. been seeing all these night bassin posts, so said, why the heck not?

hit up MB at around 6:30pm, to nice flat conditions. hit up my 1st spot of the night for nada. drove around to a 2nd spot and picked up 2 spotties! sweet! i'm liking night bassin'.

first catch of the night. ~12"

decided to move once the wind picked up and the fog rolled in. found another spot and the wind calmed down, but the fog was thick. saw a bunch of movement in the water and knew i'd get into some.

size 11 for reference.

bass thumb. sweet.

ended my sesh at around 9:30pm, biggest was about 16", the rest being 12-14. total tally - 10 spotties! had an extremely fun time, will definitely be back for some more night bassin. set up was 7'6" clarus, symetre 2500 spooled with 15lb braid pp. all on 3" bh black widow slathered in unibutter.

LA Roadtrip: perchin' and a bean 11/4-11/6

postings a bit late, but here you go.

had some tix to Universal Studios and Conan this past weekend, so decided to take a little roadtrip up to LA to stay with my brother. my brother and I have fished since we were little while growing up in Hawaii, but didn't really pick it up in Cali for some reason. he actually worked for the DFG for some time, but only on the boats, so i took him out surf fishing out in the south bay area this past weekend.

11/5 Dockweiler
hit up this stretch of beach in the morning, from the youth center to the s. jetty. it rained a bit the day before, but it was a nice and sunny morning. used GCSW and MORFG. managed to scratch out a bunch of perch ranging 4"-10". my brother seemed to be the lucky one with the higher end models.

my brothers first perch, good size too!

RAT beach
later that day, decided to hit up RAT beach for the late afternoon bite. using GCSW,MORFG, and SC. i managed a few bites but no sticks, so skunk for me. but my brother caught this beast...his first corbina and bigger than any one that i've caught! quite jealous...

almost 20", and quite fat! lucky brother.

pic of RAT beach sunset.

11/6 Playa del Ray
what happened to the sun? wet, cold, and very much raining. that didn't stop us from trying to catch some fish. i managed 2 perch with my brother getting a skunk. left after about an hour, did i mention that it was very cold and raining?

all in all, a good time with my brother. felt like we were kids again, fishing with the family, except it was waayyy colder than usual. he's got the fishing fever now, after living in cali for quite some time. hahah. hana pa'a!

SLO Roadtrip 10/28-10/30

knee surgery and rehab has kept me out from fishing for quite some time, but knee's been feeling better so i decided to take a roadtrip back to my college town of SLO for some hog fishin' after reading DeanFu's posts!

10/28
took the taco out for a spin on the sand at the dunes, and to fish right from the beach. i must say, a must do to all who visit SLO county! let my gf drive around as well on the sand. got skunked, probably because we went too late/early (noon) but fun nonetheless.

truck on the beach ready to fish with the gf in tow. yes, my gf loves to fish too!

10/29
just missed DeanFu's pm about area intel, but apparently saw him out at MDO in the morning. swell was up and conditions were quite rough for some time. had to really work for our fish, but man did it pay off!

pulled in about 10+ perch, ranging from 5" to a whopping 13+"! pics below.

later in the day, went to check out Avila beach. fished for a bit, and got hit real hard on GCSW just outside the breaks. pulled a lot of drag, and fought for about a good 5 mins. thought it was a hali, but pulled in a nice 19" jack smelt! these guys are extremely fun to fight on 6# test! found the school of smelt ranging from 15" to 19". sorry no pics of the smelt, didn't have my phone on me.

couple casts in, caught this bugger. redtail perch?

perchin with my 7'6" clarus shimano symetre 2500.

more perch, with the gf in the background.

then i get hammered by something bigger! very fun fight indeed...

taped out at about 13.5". a new pb for me! made my trip out to SLO worth while.

another 10" taped out.

10/30
decided to hit the morning bite out at Morro and Cayucos. got skunked, but had some fun. extremely hard fishing with the breaks really far outside.

pic of cayucos beach, and morro rock in the background.

all in all, i'd say i very nice roadtrip back to my old college stomping grounds. really had to work for those fish but it was fun! one thing to note, there were sandcrabs EVERYWHERE. big and small, literaly, everywhere you went, they were there. also, not much surf fisherman, so literally had the beach all to ourselves everyday. woulda took more pics, but was havin too much fun with the gf! lookin forward to my next SLO trip in the spring/summer!

8/5 Kauai - Port Allen

1st post. saw some fishing reports of kauai, where im from but now living in SD.

caught about 50 oamas, and pulled in 3 nice sized papios using the oamas.

Some Fried Oamas! Ono-lecious!

3 nice sized papios!
